Ana and Ricardo’s wedding in Hackney, London was a real testament to them and their relationship. They wanted something fun and relaxed but elegant and they opted for a quick ceremony in Hackney Town Hall followed by a paella picnic on Hackney Downs. This would have been glorious enough but the weather had other ideas and it absolutely poured down with rain so we were forced to take Plan B which was a house party in their flat down the road. I’ve never shot a house party wedding before but it turned out to be the most fun ever! And we still got traditional Valencian paella delivered by the chef himself. No amount of rain could dampen this wedding! Here is what Ana and Ricardo had to say about their wedding photography:

‘We met Alice when she was shooting a friend of ours’ wedding and we really liked her attitude, and the resulting pictures. Alice was a complete pleasure to work with, she’s very kind and accommodating. The final result is stunning, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.’

How did you two meet?

Even though we’re both from Valencia, we originally, but briefly, met in Japan. One year later we were reunited again in Valencia, a spark was lit, and the rest is history. We also met Alfonso, our witness, in Japan that first year too.

How did you decide upon your wedding venues?

We didn’t want anything fancy, so we just married on the Hackney Town Hall. The celebration was originally going to be a picnic in Hackney Downs, but the weather turned that into an awesome house party instead.

Tell me about your outfits:

Again, we wanted something simple but elegant. Ana wanted something modern and airy, and got a very nice short dress and a dried flower crown from www.sophieandluna.com.

What personal touches did you include in your ceremony?

We didn’t have any readings, but we chose three of our current favourite songs: Hrafntinna by Sigur Ros (walk-in), Wait by M83 (registrar signing), and Afterlife by Arcade Fire for (walk-out). We think those were a nice touch.

What was your favourite moment of the whole day?

We wanted for the main dish to be a surprise for everybody. We ordered an authentic Valencian paella from www.londonpaellaschool.co.uk, and it was a big hit. The moment when they brought it in was amazing, and the paella was delicious. We’re so glad Alice captured some great pictures of that moment.

What would be your advice to those about to get married?

We had been together for almost 8 years before getting married, and we wanted for the wedding not to change our relationship. Our advice is to keep doing the same as before, and to never take your spouse for granted.
